Children & Adolescents
As a mother of 5, supporting children and teens is one of my specialties. I provide a safe and creative environment where young clients can explore their feelings, build coping skills, and begin to heal from the challenges they face. Whether your child is struggling with trauma, anxiety, depression, behavioral difficulties, or the unique stressors of adoption and foster care, I use developmentally appropriate approaches that help them feel understood and supported.
Specialized Care for Neurodiverse Children
I also provide specialized care for children and adolescents who are neurodivergent, including those with autism, ADHD, and dyslexia. My approach emphasizes strengths, while also helping children develop practical tools for managing challenges at home, in school, and in relationships. By creating a tailored, supportive environment, I help kids feel seen for who they are while equipping them with strategies to thrive.
My Approach
Children and adolescents often express themselves differently than adults, which is why I integrate play, movement, and creative therapies into the counseling process. At The Counseling Haven, kids and teens have access to:
Sensory Room – a calming space designed to help regulate emotions and reduce overwhelm.
Playroom – a supportive environment where play therapy techniques help children communicate, process experiences, and learn new skills.
Art Room – a space for expression through creativity, giving kids a safe outlet to explore their emotions in non-verbal ways.
These specialized rooms allow me to meet each child where they are, using methods that feel natural and engaging while still being evidence-based.
What I Can Help With
Trauma and painful life experiences
Anxiety, depression, and mood struggles
Big emotions, meltdowns, or behavioral challenges
ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and other neurodivergent needs
Oppositional or defiant behaviors
Attachment, bonding, and transitions in foster or adoptive families
Grief, loss, or major life changes (divorce, moves, illness, etc.)
My Goal
My goal is to help children and adolescents not only manage their symptoms but also build resilience, confidence, and healthy coping strategies. I partner closely with parents and caregivers to ensure the skills learned in session carry over into home and school life.
