Frequently Asked Questions | The Counseling Haven
What makes therapy at The Counseling Haven different?
At The Counseling Haven in Bay Minette, Alabama, therapy goes beyond traditional talk therapy. I specialize in rapid, results-driven treatment using Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and other trauma-informed, brain-based approaches. Unlike many therapies that can take months or years to see change, my goal is to help you experience measurable relief and transformation quickly—often within just a few sessions.
While ART can bring powerful, rapid results, lasting healing requires more than resolving one memory or moment of pain. True transformation happens when we also address the deeper core beliefs, emotional patterns, and coping habits that may keep you stuck in negative cycles. That’s why ongoing therapy is often recommended—to help you build resilience, strengthen relationships, and create lasting emotional balance long after the initial issue has improved.
At The Counseling Haven, I help clients move beyond short-term relief to create long-term change. No matter what your mental health needs are—whether you’re navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, OCD, neurodiversity, grief, relationship struggles, or simply seeking personal growth—therapy is designed to help you get better faster and stay better longer.
What ages do you work with?
I work with children ages 6 and up, teens, and adults across the lifespan. My approach is tailored to meet each client where they are developmentally and emotionally, whether we’re helping a child manage big feelings, supporting a teen through identity and school challenges, or guiding an adult through stress, trauma, or life transitions.
In addition to my professional training, I bring nearly 20 years of marriage and the experience of raising five children, which gives me a deep, personal understanding of the challenges families face at every stage of life. My master’s program included extensive study of human development and behavior across the lifespan, and I’ve received specialized training in evidence-based modalities—such as Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and other trauma-informed approaches—that allow me to effectively support clients no matter where they fall on the human spectrum.
At The Counseling Haven, my goal is to create a safe, compassionate space for children, teens, and adults to find healing, balance, and lasting growth.
What is Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)?
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is an evidence-based therapy that helps the brain reprocess distressing memories rapidly and gently, without requiring you to relive or retell painful experiences.
ART is proven effective for a wide range of concerns — including trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, grief and loss, OCD, phobias, stress, low self-esteem, relationship challenges, performance anxiety, and even physical pain linked to emotional distress.
Many clients experience noticeable relief in just one to three sessions. This method is designed for those who want effective, lasting results without months of repetitive therapy sessions.
Do you only treat trauma?
While trauma is my specialty, I also help clients overcome anxiety, depression, OCD, and behavioral or relational struggles that stem from unresolved emotional pain. Because my work focuses on how the brain and body process experiences, rapid progress in one area often leads to broader healing and emotional balance in others.
How long will therapy take?
Every person is unique, but most clients notice significant relief within the first few sessions, especially with approaches like ART. Many clients choose to continue with supportive sessions for long-term growth, but my priority is always to help you get better faster and stay better longer.
Do you take Insurance?
As an Associate Licensed Counselor (ALC) in Alabama, I do not bill insurance directly. However, choosing private pay counseling offers greater privacy, flexibility, and control over your mental health care. Many clients appreciate that private pay keeps therapy fully confidential—insurance companies do not receive your diagnosis, progress notes, or session details—and there are no restrictions on the type, length, or frequency of sessions.
At The Counseling Haven, this freedom allows us to design treatment around what truly works for you, whether that’s short-term trauma resolution through Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) or ongoing therapy for lasting emotional growth.
